2025 Rocky Mount Distinguished Citizen Honoree - Beth Covolo

Beth Covolo: A Legacy of Leadership in Education and Community

     For 35 years, Beth Covolo has devoted her life to education; shaping young minds and strengthening communities across eastern North Carolina. After 15 years of impactful service with Nash-Rocky Mount Schools, she brought her vision and passion to Rocky Mount Academy, where she has spent the past two decades championing academic excellence, student development, and community engagement. Beth's influence extends far beyond the walls of Rocky Mount Academy. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for North Carolina Wesleyan University and the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association. She is also a former trustee of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools, where her leadership helped shape educational policies that continue to resonate throughout the state.

     At the helm of Rocky Mount Academy, a school with a proud 57-year tradition, Beth has fostered a culture that prepares students not just for college, but for lives of purpose and responsibility. Under her leadership, the school has celebrated 79 Eagle Scouts among its graduates since 2002 and has hosted numerous Eagle Scout projects that have enhanced both campus life and the broader Rocky Mount community.

   Beth is also a proud mother of three children, one of which achieved Scouting's highest rank of Eagle Scout, further reflecting the values she lives by. Her career embodies the principles at the heart of Scouting: leadership, service, and integrity. 

Beth Covolo is a true Distinguished Citizen whose enduring legacy continues to uplift, inspire, and lead by example. We are proud to celebrate her as the Distinguished Citizen of the Year for the Tar River District of the East Carolina Council-a well-deserved honor for a lifetime of impact.
