About Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York
Founded in 1992, the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York (JFDINY) preserves and promotes Japan's rich folk dance traditions. These dances, rooted in everyday life, celebrate regional customs and cultural heritage.
JFDINY's two groups-Minbuza, a professional ensemble, and Hanagasa-Kai, an inclusive community troupe-perform at major events nationwide, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney's Epcot, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Cherry Blossom Festival. Their work has also been featured on Regis & Kelly and in Madonna's Nothing Really Matters music video.
Through performances and workshops, JFDINY keeps the spirit of Japanese folk dance alive for future generations.
