When I was first asked to paint Kevin Holland, I thought I understood the task ahead of me. But the more I learned about Kevin's life and service, the more I realized how little I could truly comprehend what our nation's most elite veterans endure-and sacrifice-for the rest of us.

Kevin is the only man in U.S. history to serve in both SEAL Team 6 and Delta Force. His career includes 14 deployments to the Middle East, more than 2,000 combat missions, and four years as an assault team leader-responsible for six operators trusted with some of the most strategic missions in our nation's history. Over the course of his service, Kevin earned 2 Bronze Stars for Valor, 5 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts, and numerous other decorations. These are facts, but behind each one is a story of courage, hardship, and loss that no words-or paintings-can fully capture.

From the very beginning of this project, I knew I wanted Kevin's portrait to be more than just an image-it needed to tell his story. Kevin and his wife visited my studio to ensure that the details were accurate. In fact, Kevin even added a few brushstrokes to the original painting himself. That moment was humbling: the man whose life and sacrifices I was attempting to honor with paint, placing his own hand into the work.

As an artist, my role is simple compared to the life Kevin has lived. I can only hope that this painting gives others a glimpse of the man behind the uniform and a deeper appreciation for all who have served. Thank you for your service, Kevin.
