Friday Keynote Speakers
10:15 - 11:15 AM: Dan Cushman, MD
- Keynote Topic: Ultrasound as a Predictor of Future Tendon Injury
- Dan Cushman, M.D., is a professor in the University of Utah Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and is the director of non-operative sports medicine research. He is board-certified in both Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and specializes in musculoskeletal ultrasound, nerve injuries, and endurance sports-specific injuries. He serves as the team physician for the University of Utah Track & Field and Cross-Country teams and is also the team physician for the University of Utah Swimming & Diving teams. His research interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound for the treatment/prevention of injury and low-cost treatment techniques.
1:45 - 2:45 PM: Sarah Kessler, PhD
- Keynote Topic: Applied Biomechanics: Being Uncomfortable in Uncertainty
- Sarah Kessler, Ph.D. is about to enter her third season as the Head Coach of Athletic Performance for the Indiana Fever. She spent the previous two seasons working as a Performance Data Analyst for the Indiana Pacers, working alongside the director of performance, strength and conditioning team, physical therapist/athletic trainers and team dietician to monitor athlete health and performance. Her work focuses primarily on using a variety of biomechanical analyses to improve understanding of athlete well-being and monitor performance outcomes. Previously, Kessler was at Harvard University as a post-doctoral researcher working to understand foot and ankle mechanics.
2:45 - 3:45 PM: Shawn Hueglin, PhD, RD, CSSD (Keynote sponsored by DairyWest)
- Keynote Topic: Team USA: Fueling the Path to Paris
- Shawn Hueglin, PhD, RD, CSSD is currently a Senior Sport Dietitian with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). She primarily supports summer Olympic team sports, specifically water polo and volleyball located in Southern California. Shawn has supported athletes competing in six Olympic Games and three Pan American Games. Prior to joining the USOPC, Shawn was an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, Long Beach. She has extensive experience providing nutrition consulting to recreational, collegiate, and Olympic level athletes.
