About the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation
The Foundation
Thank you for supporting the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation. When a line of duty death occurs, the CFHF assists, supports, and provide resources for the impacted agency in their effort to serve the deceased officer's family based on their needs and wishes. Our presence allows agency members to participate in honoring their colleague without the pressure of funeral planning, allowing them an appropriate time to grieve.
Planning a line of duty death funeral, while handling the associated investigation and the routine of the everyday call load can overwhelm any agency. Our team of professionals integrates with agency personnel to assist with funeral planning to whatever extent the family and the agency desire.
Beyond Funeral Planning
The CFHF is proud to provide peer support and mental health resources for agencies that do not have access to such resources. In partnership with Dr. Sara Metz and Code 4 Counseling, we are able to deploy a team of trained public safety peer support professionals.
Horan & McConaty also donates their services and provides a casket or urn at no charge. John Horan also volunteers as a consultant to the Foundation.
Long after the funeral, our Family Support Coordinator keeps in touch with the family and recognizes birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays, all of which are not the same without their officer with them.
Your Support Matters
Our services are provided at no cost to the agency or the family. In addition to handling costs associated with the funeral venue and planning, the CFHF can help with such things as lodging, transportation, and clothing for family attending the funeral. Every situation is different, and it is important for the foundation to be prepared financially. The Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation is supported entirely by donations.
Actual Costs
The total funeral costs for a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty can be $30,000 or more and can involve hundreds of personnel. Most agencies do not have a surplus of money in their budget to pay for this type of unanticipated expense.
The Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization made up of Colorado law enforcement officers and civilian personnel who serve in a voluntary capacity, there are currently only one paid employee, the Executive Director and one paid contractor, our Family Support Liaison.
