This event is not just an exquisite gathering; it serves as a significant source of support for CureDuchenne, empowering the organization to invest in cutting-edge research aimed at discovering a cure for individuals facing Duchenne muscular dystrophy. CureDuchenne is committed to improving the lives of everyone affected by Duchenne through accelerating research to find the cure, improving care, and empowering the Duchenne community. Join us in driving transformative research and support programs that offer hope and improve care for thousands who need it.
Please join us on Oct 2, 2025, for Champions in Dallas, and help us accelerate a cure for the 15,000 boys and young men living with this disease in the US alone.
In 2019, our family received life-changing news. My grandson Shepherd was diagnosed with a rare and fatal disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Duchenne is an aggressive, muscle-wasting disease that begins with larger muscles in the legs, and later attacks the smaller muscles in the heart and lungs. Most boys diagnosed with Duchenne lose the ability to walk by 12, and many lose their lives in their late 20s.
As a parent and grandparent, it was the most devastating news imaginable. It became clear what my role would be - I would carry the hope, and shout from every mountain top, river, and valley to raise awareness and funds.
After a week of scouring the internet and vetting various Duchenne groups, I landed on CureDuchenne - a nonprofit founded by a family, Debra and Paul Miller, whose story was very similar to ours. CureDuchenne has driven forward the most promising research and treatments - in fact, in the last 20 years that CureDuchenne has been operating, the life expectancy for those living with Duchenne has increased by nearly a decade.
But that's not enough for Shepherd, and the nearly 15,000 boys and young men living with this disease in the US alone.
The cure is within our reach, but we need your help. Join me on the journey.
Together, we WILL cure Duchenne.
