Many of the students in the Law and Public Service pathway at FHS are looking to continue their studies beyond high school and eventually work in the field of criminal justice, law enforcement or forensic science in some capacity. We will be studying death, decomposition, anthropology and completing casework in the spring and hope to provide insight into college and career options for our students with a guest speaker.
The Southeast Texas Applied Forensic Science (STAFS) Facility facilitates and conducts research that can be applied to forensic science and medico-legal communities. Their graduate and undergraduate students learn how to conduct, publish and present quality research. They work with law enforcement officials and forensic practitioners to simulate forensically relevant scenarios that may be encountered in their line of work to help them understand how events might have occurred, answer key scientific questions, or provide supporting data through research.
Our requested guest speaker, Haeli Kennedy, completed a BS in Criminal Justice, with a Minor in Forensic Science, at Sam Houston State University. She has been with the STAFS since 2016. She has professional experience with search and recovery of remains, as well as assistance with casework.
