This grant will fund an innovative Intra-district Book Club for 150 fifth-grade students from Bales and Windsong,, providing engaging reading materials that foster a sense of community and connection. As a pilot program, this book club will prepare 5th graders for their transition to Junior High by building friendships and shared experiences across campuses, so they merge with a sense of unity.

Students will wear their Book Club t-shirts proudly as they meet virtually each week. In meetings each book club, consisting of students from both schools, will discuss a range of books, perspectives, and discover common interestsâ€" underscoring that we are all Mustangs.
This program not only supports literacy, engagement, and social-emotional learning but also provides an early foundation for cross-campus friendships and collaboration.
The club will culminate in an in-person gathering at Stevenson Park, where students can wrap up their discussion of the book and celebrate their reading journey with an ice cream social, solidifying bonds created over the time they spent together in Book Club .
By promoting critical thinking, empathy, and communication skills, this book club prepares students for future academic and social settings. Fostering a love for reading and a district-wide community spirit, this grant enriches the educational experience for every participant and builds connections that will ease the transition to Junior High, creating a united, Mustang-strong community.
