Elevating Our Craft

School: Alamosa High School
District: RE11-J
District Website: https://ahs.alamosaschools.org/
School Address: 805 Craft Drive, Alamosa, CO 81101
Grade Level: Grades 9-12, Social Studies
Region: San Luis Valley
Project Title: Elevating Our Craft
Category: Teacher Professional Development
Amount Requested: $1,000
Project Description:
I am requesting funds to attend the National Conference for Social Studies. Having taught in Alamosa for three years, I believe my students deserve the best. Our student population includes a large percentage of students who qualify for free/reduced lunches and often seek an outlet for creativity and personal identity in the classroom. This project will help cover the remaining costs for myself and my department to attend this conference in Boston. Our goal is to improve our course work and inspire students to engage with local, national, and global issues, leading to positive community impact.
Proposal:
Our district is currently experiencing a budget shortage, requiring us to seek external funding for professional development. The social studies department has allocated its entire budget to attend the National Conference for Social Studies and is contributing personal funds as well. This grant would lighten the financial burden and enable us to bring back new and exciting teaching strategies to better engage students. Our aim is to boost student confidence, improve AP program success, and spark interest in world issues that can lead to community involvement and professional success.
Budget Breakdown:
Registration costs for 3-4 attendees: $1,000
Department matching funds: $1,000
Out-of-pocket contributions will cover remaining expenses.
