Gouri Choudhury in Memoriam (1938-2022) on behalf of Action India
A visionary human rights activist, Gouri Choudhury was the founder of Action India-a Delhi-based NGO involved with the autonomous women's movement in India since 1978. For over four decades, Choudhury dedicated her life to the relentless pursuit of justice, equality, and empowerment for women and girls in India. Her unwavering commitment to the Women's Rights movement spanned across the crucial domains of women and child rights, gender equality, healthcare, and access to clean water and sanitation. From 2013 until her death in 2022, Gouri and Action India have partnered with The Pad Project, Girls Learn International, and The Feminist Majority Foundation to produce Period. End of Sentence.; to establish pad-production enterprises and reproductive health education programs in Uttar Pradesh; and to shed the stigma surrounding menstruation so that all women and girls can participate as full and equal citizens within their own communities.
