The Mele Journey: A Collaborative Storytelling Workshop for Community-Based Violence Prevention
Presented by Dr. Lynn Chang
This interactive workshop uses storytelling and the Mele Journey to explore gender-based violence prevention through community care, self-compassion, and shared wisdom. Participants work in small groups to create a collective narrative that reflects survivor-informed values, connection, and resilience. Through guided prompts and collaborative storytelling, participants explore how prevention can grow through listening, support, and community accountability. The session invites participants to imagine how knowledge, healing, and strength can be carried back into their communities to help foster safety, compassion, and care.
Session 2
12:00pm - 12:50pm
You Are Your Own Magic: Tarot for Self Empowerment
Presented by Sandy
What if we thought of ourselves as the most powerful person we know? In this session, we will use tarot cards to pull wisdom from the cosmos and from ourselves to address a question, challenge, or uncertainty in your life. Participants will get the opportunity to practice tools for navigating stressful situations, including reflection-based grounding, journaling exercises, and peer support.
Session 3
2:00pm - 2:50pm
Processing Pain Through Poetry
Presented by Tam Le
This workshop will teach participants how to understand, express, and move through their trauma using poetry. We welcome beginners who have never written a poem, as well as seasoned poets. The instructor is self-taught so there are no strict "rules" to poetry in this workshop or a "right" or "wrong" way to "do poetry," as long as you come in willing to be vulnerable and honest.
