Intergenerational Justice

Remembering Our Roots, Building Our Future

Grounded in ancestral wisdom and intergenerational leadership, the Intergenerational Justice Track explores decolonizing parenting, healthy masculinity, caregiving, boundaries, and communal protection.

Sessions highlight elders' and youths' contributions to movement-building while supporting new models of care, accountability, and mutual aid as core strategies for violence prevention.

Sessions

Session 1

11:00am - 11:50am

Building our capacity for resistance: Why the work for liberation begins with tending to our roots
Presented by A Better Force

Our communities are under attack, with our rights being stripped and people being abducted. While it is imperative that we resist, intergenerational trauma and oppressive systems can trick us into believing that assimilation will keep us safe. In the workshop, we will unlearn these harmful narratives, dig deep into our roots to learn from ancestral knowledge and sustainably increase our capacity to advocate for our communities. The workshop will cover our past, present and future - the history of how we got here, the present fears that hold us back, and how we can overcome to build a better future.

Session 2

12:00pm - 12:50pm

What We Choose to Remember: Personal Narrative Workshop
Presented by Cindy Nguyen

What is the grief and joy that our communities carry? What can we create for our descendants to remember? In this workshop, we invite you to reflect on childhood memories, family anecdotes, and community histories to create a zine that can serve as an artifact you would pass on to future descendants. The presenters will begin by sharing examples of storytelling from the Vietnamese and Afghan communities to spark ideas. Then, we will offer prompts to help guide you in creating a zine with the story you choose to tell. We will share our zines with each other and brainstorm ideas to continue documenting personal and community narratives beyond this workshop.

Session 3

2:00pm - 2:50pm

Healing Together: Intergenerational Wisdom, Self-Trust and Community Power
Presented by Carla Pelcastre

This workshop explores how healing has been passed down through families and communities across generations. We will talk about how healing is now expanding to include the body, emotions, relationships, and self-trust. Participants will reflect on what they learned about care from their families, cultures, and communities. We will explore how healing does not have to happen alone and how community support, shared wisdom, and caring for one another can be powerful tools for well-being and growth.
