Community Healing

Reclaiming Our Power: From Survival to Self-Determination

The Community Healing Track centers community-led transformation and self-determination as acts of healing and resistance. Sessions on this track will explore how we move beyond reactive systems of care toward proactive, community-driven approaches to safety and accountability.
Participants will engage in conversations and skill-building around collective healing, leadership, organizing, and creating sustainable systems rooted in justice and collective care.

Sessions

Session 1

11:00am - 11:50am

Healthy Relationships for Unhealthy People
Presented by Percy Zafar

"Healthy Relationships For Unhealthy People" is an interactive workshop about how to navigate being mentally ill, neurodivergent, and/or a trauma survivor in relationships with others. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healthy relationships; this workshop aims to give participants some resources to help determine what is healthy for you and your community. It uses a disability theory framework, deconstructing what we consider healthy/unhealthy, what we associate with those labels, and how these ideas came to be.

Session 2

12:00pm - 12:50pm

The Interplay Between Substance Use And Interpersonal Violence
Presented by Eric Garcia

This presentation aims to destigmatize common misconceptions regarding substance use and interpersonal violence, highlight how these forces are affected by our cultural or spiritual backgrounds, and share methods of harm reduction. We will examine the multiple ways that substance use, interpersonal violence, and harm reduction are interconnected and influence us.

Session 3

2:00pm - 2:50pm

Mutual Aid as a Protective Factor Against Violence
Presented by Parisa Mahmud

Mutual aid has been used as a form of community care for generations in our cultures. Learn about communal protective factors against gender-based violence, and how you can practice principles of mutual aid in the movement to end cycles of abuse.
