The scent of strong spices is a nod to the way Michael defends us in battle, while the soft sandalwood recalls his gentler role of accompanying the sick and dying. Notes of incense bring to mind the Mass, reminding us of heaven and Michael's place as prince of the heavenly host.

St. Michael's feast day, also known as Michaelmas, is September 29.
