Battle of the Books is free for participants, but donations to keep the program going are welcome and appreciated!

The approximate cost per reader for the whole summer & GRAND BATTLE is $130, which includes 7 books, four author visits, prizes, team t-shirt, extra food, and adult support.

First offered in 2023, Brainerd's Battle of the Books was designed to develop a love of reading by immersing students in thought provoking books. The books, chosen in accordance with the MN State Reading Standards, help kids THINK about their lives & the lives of others. Readers are not only given the books, but the opportunity to come together throughout the summer to:

discuss the themes,
meet the authors,
enjoy food from local establishments,
play games,
and win prizes!

Additionally, September GRAND BATTLES - game show-style book competitions - increase the fun with winners receiving cash prizes up to $100, and all participants walking away with more books!

With the financial support of The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library, Brainerd Public Schools Foundation, and District 181, Brainerd's Battle of the Books, 2024, is FREE!

But...as Learning Loss funding comes to a close, we will need to pursue other revenue sources and gladly accept ANY donation to keep this program going and FREE. To donate, click a button above OR drop a check off at the Brainerd Public Library made out to The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library - noted for Battle of the Books.
