Sourced through Eye for Art Gallery, who purchased this painting, on behalf of TCF, from Mr. Shiraz Qureshi (Karachi, 2023), who purchased it from Mr. Mubashir Ahmed (Karachi, 2016), who, in turn, purchased it directly from Gulgee in 2006-07.
Born in Peshawar, Gulgee embarked on his educational journey at Lawrence College, subsequently pursuing advanced studies at Aligarh University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. Initially a portrait artist, he transitioned into the realm of abstract art, deriving inspiration from Islamic calligraphy. His artistry garnered international recognition, leading to commissions to paint notable leaders such as US Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush, the Shah of Iran, King Hussein of Jordan, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, and Pakistani luminaries Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and General Ayub Khan. Throughout his career, Gulgee received numerous accolades and exhibited his works globally, earning a revered place in Pakistan's art history. His art continues to inspire and resonate, carrying forward his legacy of creativity and expression. Gulgee's artwork remains amongst the most sought-after in Pakistan.
