ARTIST BIO: Michael Sufrin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1960, and currently lives and works in Boca Raton, Florida. He received his degree in liberal arts and business administration from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Sufrin began painting abstract art at the Boca Museum Art School beginning 2015. His abstract paintings depict fantastical realms and figures born from his imagination - a captivating, multilayered textured cosmos. Sufrin's recent exhibition record includes 1310 Gallery, The Armory Art Center and The Broward Art Guild. My paintings embody both concepts. Unfettered by external influences, my work begins as a spontaneous, uncontrolled burst of raw emotion and experimentation on canvas, invoking frenzied feelings through color and texture. To reconcile the chaos, I methodically organize, refine, and imbue purpose into my paintings, a process I liken to solving a puzzle. I find form through acrylic paints, brushstrokes, templates, and gels, ultimately shaping them into my myriad of scientific experiments. I soften the hard lines and rough edges with my use of delicate airbrushing, a tool that allows me to carefully cut and thoughtfully edit my paintings - transitioning from whimsy to control-the result: fantastical realms and figures born from my imagination, a captivating multi-layered cosmos.
