This beautiful watercolor portrait of Shavano Peak is perfect for your home, office, family, and friends. Denver artist Mike Wilson painted an entire collection of 14ers watercolor pieces and has donated them to Cottonwood Institute to support our programs.
ARTIST NOTES: This mountain was named for the Ute chief Tarbiochaket. French fur traders translated his name as Chaveneaux, which was then corrupted to Shavano, the name it bears today. In the Ute language, it meant "blue flowers," according to Jeri L. Norgren's recent book Colorado's Highest. This 14er's distinctive snowfield is called the Angel of Shavano. That angel has become more difficult to see when I drive to Gunnison now. It's almost as if the planet is becoming warmer or something.
This print is 23in x 30in Lustre Photo Paper, on 3/16" Gatorfoam.
