A Three Day-Sail On The Chesapeake Bay
Dear Crew - Up to four people,
A three day sail on the Chesapeake……. will take place between late May and late June on an agreed upon date. You can choose any three consecutive days of the week. (Day one is a travel/prep day) Although it is a few months away, the following is a short summary of what to expect and provide you sufficient time to prepare for the experience.
" WE Three"
You will be sailing an S2- 36 foot sloop, Racer/Cruiser. Her name is "We Three", home ported in Middle River Maryland. She is a solid heavy displacement sloop, rigged for safe and easy sailing. "We Three" sleeps six comfortably and is equipped with three ice boxes, a marine head (bathroom), galley, navigation station, solon, captain's quarters, two
quarter berths and a private "V" berth. She is also equipped with an auxiliary diesel engine. Although she is 36 feet long she might be perceived a bit small when all her crew are below to get ready for a good night's sleep. The best way to
describe her is that you are between camping out and a large motor home.
The Cruise
The trip is a two day sail, and preparations will take place the night before we set sail. We will set sail by 8:30 AM, travel three mile south on Middle River into the northern part of the Chesapeake Bay, cruise to the Eastern Shore, and anchor at or near Rock Hall with an expected arrival time of 6:00PM. On day two, by 9:00 AM, you will navigate and sail for home. We should be back in Middle River and docked by 5:00 PM. We Three" is currently docked at the end of Dogwood Drive, Middle River MD. You can see the boat on Google Maps. (Black Sail Covers, group of four or five). As we get closer to the cruise date I will conduct a meeting zoom call to discuss sailing terminology and dos and don'ts of open water sailing. Alcoholic beverages and responsible consumption thereof are permitted only while we are docked or anchored. There is no smoking allowed on the boat. You are welcome to take beverages, and pack your lunch and snack goodies for the cruise. You are responsible for buying your own dinner on prep night, at Rock Hall, and on your drive home. If the wind speed weather forecast is greater than 15 knots and or expected heavy rain we will not sail, and another date will be agreed upon. Youngsters must be 12 and over! Although inner Bay sailing is no more than a couple of minutes away from first responders, Boat US Insurance still requires all crew members sign a release of liability waiver. The cruise is designed to provide an exciting and pleasurable experience. No one will be required to perform a task that
will make them uncomfortable.
The objective of the cruise is to give you an experience few have ever done, work
together as a team, and have some great fun. Open water sailing is a sport and not for those ill at heart. This is the real deal! Just like other sports such as skiing, scuba diving, etc., there is a risk factor involved. Safety is the first
consideration before all decisions. And finally, if you are easily prone to motion sickness, which is very uncomfortable,
get your primary care doctor to give you a prescription for "Scopolamine", a transderm patch" that goes behind your ear. If you have any heart related condition, Scopolamine is not recommended. The next best treatment is Dramamine. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Hank Baylor (Trip Donor) directly.
