Meet Our Speaker
General James F. Amos
General James F. Amos (retired), received his fourth star in 2008, when he became the 31st Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. Two years later, he was formally nominated by President Barack Obama, received support from the Senate Armed Services Committee, and was confirmed as Commandant of the Marine Corps. This made him the first Naval Aviator to become Commandant of the Marine Corps, a position he held until retirement in 2014.
Since retiring, General Amos has served on the boards of Lord Corporation and as Chairman of The Semper Fi Fund, and on the board of the Veterans Bridge Home. He and his wife, Bonnie, now call Charlotte, NC home.
Amos' career began in 1971 as a Naval Aviator after graduating from the University of Idaho the prior year. His early career included several tours which allowed him to fly the F-4 Phantom II, Command of VMFA-312 that joined Carrier Air Wing Eight on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), tours in Italy, and combat deployments to Iraqi Freedom I and II. Highlights of his career are abundant and diverse as he served in many different capacities as leadership for the United States Marine Corps.
