This tasting kit includes 8 ounces each of five varieties of mezcal from three different palenques. From well-known mezcalero Felix Angeles Arellanes of Santa Catarina Minas, there is a Tobala Coyote and an Arroqueno. Felix roasts his agave in an earthen oven and mills espadin, tobala, and arroqueno by hand. He ferments open-air in wooden barrels, and distills in wood-fired clay pot stills. From Rosario Angeles Vasquez, an up and coming mezcalero, there is a Jabali/Espadin. Rosario uses ancestral methods to produce her mezcal, including hand-milling the agave and distilling in clay pot stills. Finally, from mezcalero Fortunato Hernandez of San Baltazar Chichicapam, there is an Espadin te de limon and a Madre Cuixe. This tasting kit comes with two handmade tasting cups created by Priya Ray, a disabled ceramicist and founder of the disability advocacy non-profit DIYabled, who lives and works in Ashville, North Carolina.
