Nancy Clark's artworks are inspired by the determination and adaptation skills of her grandmother Josie Wright and father Russel Tharp. In traditional Blackfeet society, women were respected as spiritual leaders and had agency over their education and community roles. Women owned and managed homes, processed buffalo hides and meat, and more. In her art, Clark adapts the visual heritage of her family - a dress that Josie wore, her father's cradleboard that Josie built, animal skulls that provide protection - into iconic graphic elements that honor the self-determination and resilience of her grandmother, father and other American Indians.

Nancy Clark combines natural forms and patterns in detailed line work with bold colors. In her Climate Change Series, circles of decorated moccasins dance to the heartbeat of the earth and animals gather to protect the environment. Stars reflect the infinite starlight within and around us, and the interconnection of all things.

Clark has exhibited at the McColl Center for Visual Arts in Charlotte, SC, the State Capitol Museum in Olympia, the Northwest Arts and Crafts Center at Seattle Center, and the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle. Her large archival print Respect hangs at the Seattle University School of Law. Alongside her art career, Clark taught art and language arts in elementary and secondary schools.
