About Macari Vineyards:
The history of Macari reaches back to the 30s and 40s, when Joseph Macari, Sr. made wine with his father and grandfather in their basement in Corona, Queens. They bottled the wine by hand and Joseph sold it to neighbors and friends. In the mid 1960s he purchased a 500-acre former potato farm on Long Island Sound. It would be another 30 years before he began to realize his dream of growing grapes and making wine. The farm was mostly fallow until 1995 when his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Alexandra Macari, moved with their four children to the North Fork to begin planting vines. Macari's ongoing commitment to excellence comes through in the making of their wines, excellence that begins in the cultivation of the loamy, sandy soil and carries through to the final product.
