Plan for a hike - along the way you'll have expansive views of the surrounding fields and hills. Along the way to the chapel, you'll also see the Stations of the Cross line the trail and a grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. Near the top, the hill becomes thickly wooded, and a few yards later you'll come to a sweet little stone chapel with a few pews inside.

The shrine sits atop Council Bluff, which is believed to have been a meeting spot for Native American tribes before settlers came to the area. The shrine is said to contain a relic of St. Anne and a particle of the True Cross.

St. Anne's Chapel, also known as St. Anne's Shrine, is located about 50 miles west of Madison. St. Luke's Catholic Church is at the corner of Nachreiner Ave and Oak St in Plain, WI. Admission is free. There is a small strip of farm land you have to cross behind the cemetery as you start your hike. Be sure to close the gate behind you as you walk up the hill, so the cows don't get in! Always a fun part for children!
