Robert Indiana: NUMBERS (unsigned edition)
Pop art icon Robert Indiana came to prominence in the 1960s and is most famous for his LOVE iconography, which, until recently took the form of an aluminum sculpture at the corner of 6th Ave. and 55th Street.
Known for using public signs and symbols with altered lettering to make stark and challenging visual statements in his prints, paintings and constructions, Indiana gave new meaning to essential words like Eat, Die and Love. By presenting them in bold block letters and vivid colors, he invited his viewers to approach the commonplace from a new perspective.
NUMBERS is a complete set of 1968 silkscreens, created for Manhattan's legendary Multiples Shop, situated next to the old Whitney Museum.
This set is in its original custom packaging, designed to go straight from the shop to hanging on the wall. It is a truly rare survival. And for New Yorkers, like Indiana himself, it's a piece of our shared history.
