Description:

While my quilt design is simple, I've sewn the names of LGBTQ+ activists and prominent figures, past and present, and local, state, and national, into the larger rainbow stripes. I was inspired by the inter-disciplinary seminar "History of LGBTQIA" I took at Clark Street Community School last year, as well as the PBS Wisconsin documentary "Wisconsin Pride." I was thinking about what I learned from both of these while I was at Blue Bar Quilts buying fabric for my quilt when the idea of incorporating the 42 names into the quilt.

Artist Statement:

I myself am part of the LGBTQ+ community and I think what GSAFE does is important, especially in today's political climate. I'm fortunate to be in a school and district that supports me in any way they can and have a family that supports me as well. I regularly attend the GSAFE Celebration of Leadership with my mom and want to do what I can to give back and support GSAFE's work.
