Deep Roots: A Duo of Distinctive Reds from Turley Wine Cellars

Turley Juvenile Zinfandel ($28): The 2020 Turley Juvenile Zinfandel is a highly-rated California red, showcasing bright, youthful fruit from 6-25 year-old vines across over two dozen historic vineyards. It features aromas of spiced plum, blood orange, and stone fruits, with a balanced, textured palate. The wine is fermented with native yeast and aged for 12 months in 95% used oak.

Turley Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault ($36): Turley's Cinsault vineyard may be the oldest in the United States! A light-bodied red grape, Cinsault is usually found in the south of France as a component of Chateauneuf- du-Pape in the Rhone Valley, or consumed as rose in Provence. The Bechthold Vineyard vines are gnarly, head-trained, and dry-farmed in deep, sandy soils. They're also ungrafted, meaning they remain on their original vitis vinifera roots that were first planted 136 years ago, a phenomenon nearly impossible to replicate today. This 2020 wine is light- bodied with fresh, high acidity, almost akin to a Gamay or a very light Pinot Noir. It's fermented using only natural yeasts and aged in 100% used French oak.
