Language learning goes beyond communication;Culture, Comparisons, and Communities are essential components as well.
This project will impact students positively, because now they will have cultural experiences making the language learning more relevant. Specifically, reading authentic legends in the books will familiarize students with practices and products of these particular cultures. The flags will serve as a visual representations from these Spanish speaking countries. Likewise students I teach in an English Language Development class will see their culture represented. The digital stories connect students to celebrations they may not be familiar with, while improving overall communication, vocabulary and grammar structures. These digital stories are leveled making them comprehensible and accessible to all learners from novice to advanced. Finally, taking students to The Arts Campus At Willits for screenings of Internationally chosen films featuring Spanish language and/or culture allows them to make comparisons, better understand other cultures, and see local people from our community using their bilingual abilities.
