4Evaluating Primary Source Documents
Silma Junior High School
Silma, CO
Amount Requested: $800
Donation Amount: $200
This project's goal is to get students reading primary source documents to learn history. Students will practice their reading, writing, evaluation skills and more by reading primary source documents.
This project is requesting funds for 2 primary source document lesson binders, one being for world history and the other for US History. These binders are through the DBQ(Document Based Question) Project and provide twelve different lessons about world or US history. Each lesson has anywhere from 3-6 primary source documents that students read in order to answer a overarching question. For example, the overarching question could be "Was the US justified in going to war with Mexico?" and each primary source document would provide evidence to help the students answer the question. Students then practice their writing skills by answering the question using a 'bucket' essay format that is provided in the lesson. The intended outcomes of this project would be to improve students critical thinking, source evaluation, and writing skills.
