We have many At Risk/Low Income students. We plan to assist/cost share the price of a wood project (i.e. students pay half, school pay half). By doing so, lower-income students will be able to not only take Industrial Arts, but also take home great wood projects they have created!
With all students being able to take IA with reduced restrictions of cost, all students will learn safety usage of shop machinery as well as a love for working with their hands and the development of wood working techniques and problem solving skills. By splitting the cost in half, students still have a financial investment in their project which will give them ownership while at the same time the school/grant will be assisting them. We believe we will develop young people as they transition into adulthood to have a lifelong love and skills to be able to work with wood.
We are a rural school district of 550 square miles having 150 students in grades 7-12. We have approximately 50% of our students on Free & Reduced Lunch.
