Electricity in the Classroom

Delta High School

Delta, CO

Requested Amount: $2500

Donation Amount: $100

The availability of electronic equipment determines the students' engagement and success in this content area. Multimeters, resistors, wires, light bulbs, capacitors, LEDs, and the like.

When teaching physics, Electricity is a large portion of the course. Electricity is one of the most important pieces of technology people encounter on a day to day basis. Students that are exposed to the concepts and skills associated with electricity have amazing opportunities to further the education and for career opportunities. However, in order to be able to grasp the concepts and skill students must have exposure to hands on experiments. This grant would help fund the necessary equipment. Intended outcomes include; mastery of electronic skills that home/car owners need like checking circuits for connectivity, voltage, and current, development of deeper conceptual knowledge with electricity such as causes and uses, and hopefully students will gain an appreciation of how they can pursue a career in the electricity field.

DHS is pretty awesome... We are rather diverse for Western Colorado.
We are around 70% Free Reduced Lunch, We serve a large Hispanic, and Karin population. Most of are students are in or just above the poverty line. Most of our students will not pursue a 4 year/2 year/ college or trade.
