After studying the impact of AI in art, culture, academics and economics, my class will screen, The Creator, which explores moral implications for humanity should AI change into a devastating force.

My 9th Grade English kids are an amazing group of students. They are all open to thinking, reading and writing about new ideas. They've been so involved and participatory in our current topic of Artificial Intelligence. They've been working hard every school day to read, write, discuss and think about the implications that AI could have on our culture, arts, economy and education system. After a long unit of hard study, these funds will be used to take students on a field trip to our local movie theater to watch a movie that is coming out which has great relevance to the topic Artificial Intelligence. The funds will cover the cost of renting the theater, the movie itself, coverage for subs for that day and transportation costs. 78% of our school is identified for free and reduced lunch and often my students do not get these kinds of cultural opportunities. Not only will this movie be a great cultural opportunity, but it will also be a time where they can practice thoughtful reflection and personal opinions about art in the real world. After watching the movie, students will be asked to reflect and write on the narratives within the movie and the impact these narratives have on our perception of AI. They will also be asked to look at alternative perspectives and evaluate why AI is such a popular theme for entertainment in our current times. It will nicely tie up our unit and provide us with a celebratory event that takes them out of their normal everyday lives. I love these students and this class so much and would love to provide them with this kind of a fun and thoughtful activity.
