10Oh the Places We'll Go!
Creede Elementary - 4th & 5th Graders
Creede, CO
Requested Amount: $2500
Donation Amount: $250
I want students to go outside our valley to Colorado Springs to learn about 3 unique places. We will work hard for funding but need your help!
I am requesting funds to take my 4th and 5th graders to Colorado Springs to learn more about the history of their state, geography, and life science. Since Creede is approximately 235 miles from Colorado Springs. Students in Creede rarely get to visit places like Colorado Springs and this will provide them with a hands-on learning experience they will never forget! In addition to using the grant money we will earn money to pay for some of our food and transportation. Through creating spirit wear for our school and selling items at sporting events, students will learn valuable skills including; creating a budget, keeping a balanced account, marketing, and how to set prices for the items we sell. During our overnight stay we will visit three places:
Dinosaur Resource Center in Woodland Park- intended outcomes:
Understand what a Paleontologist does,
Discover how fossils are formed and preserved,
Identify what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur,
Learn where fossils are found,
See what lived in the oceans 65 million years ago.
And see fossils prepared in our lab!
Garden of the Gods- intended outcomes:
Students will learn about the park's ecology, geology, and history as they hike through the park's Central Garden. They will experience firsthand the reason why Garden of the Gods is one of Colorado's most well known places to visit.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo- intended outcomes:
Habitats - The animals that live at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo come from all over the world and many are not necessarily built for Colorado's changing climate! Alongside the EdVenture Mentors you will explore how the Zoo decides which animals can live here and what they need to be happy and healthy in their new home!
Classifications - Marsupials to invertebrates; Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is home to a variety of animals! Now just like us, not all animals are the same! Join the Adventure Mentors to discover what makes animals different from one another!
Adaptations - From flying south for the winter to hunting in packs; animals have unique physical and behavioral adaptations to help them survive! Join the EdVenture Mentors in exploring the various traits that allow animals to survive in their environments!
This project will provide students with unique learning opportunities in and out of our classroom. I appreciate your consideration and time.
