Just inside the Beltway in Rockville, Maryland, Woodmont Country Club's North Course is one of the truly elite private golf experiences in the Washington, D.C. region - a 7,205-yard, par-72 Alfred H. Tull design that opened in 1950 and has been continuously refined by Arthur Hills (1999 and 2006) and Joel Weiman (2018-20), with most recent course consulting by Shawn Smith. The course is defined by long, demanding tee shots, generously framed parkland corridors, and Tull's bold, well-defended green complexes - accented throughout by the club's signature stone walls and walkways at holes 2, 4, 6, 13, 15 (a charming Swilcan-style bridge), and 17, plus dramatic infinity-style bunker complexes at the 5th and 15th. The result is one of the toughest, most beautifully conditioned championship setups in the mid-Atlantic, which is exactly why the USGA has chosen Woodmont as a U.S. Open Final Qualifying venue for nearly 35 consecutive years. The club is also a regular host of the U.S. Adaptive Open (on the South Course), cementing its place among America's most respected private championship venues.
Golf Digest Rankings #5 Best in State, Maryland (2025-'26) - a perennial Best in State top-15 fixture for nearly half a century.
Designer: Alfred H. Tull (1950) / Arthur Hills (1999 & 2006 renovations) / Joel Weiman (2018-20)
