Steve Xydas, M.D., is the chief of the Columbia University Division of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center and co-director of the Mount Sinai Heart Institute and the Mount Sinai Aortic Center.

Dr. Xydas is board certified in cardiac surgery and is an expert in minimally invasive, open, endovascular, and transcatheter approaches to a full spectrum of serious cardiac diseases, including valve disease, coronary disease, and aortic aneurysms. He has extensive experience in valve-sparing aortic root repairs and innovative treatments to thoracic aneurysms.

Dr. Xydas is a graduate of Harvard College and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery and cardiovascular surgery training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, New York. Since 2016, he has been the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he established a prolific, high-volume surgical practice with one of the lowest mortality rates in Florida based on published state reports. In addition, doctors chose Dr. Xydas nationally as a "Top Doctor" as part of Castle Connolly's Top Doctor survey every year since 2016.

Dr. Xydas has extensive research and commercial experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the Sapien and Corevalve devices. He is a co-investigator on clinical trials, including the Corevalve Pivotal, Corevalve SURTAVI, Sapien 3 (Partner 3), and SMART TAVR trials. He has participated in many international operative surgical symposia and has lectured on a national and international level.
