Guardian by Linda Cordell
Material: Porcelain
Retail Value: $4,200
Dimensions: 19" x 11" x 8"
Donated by Linda Cordell
This fierce sculpture was inspired by a canine from the Meissen Manufactory, the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe, and Chinese stone lions. Sitting atop a cloud pedestal, this highly stylized form showcases the beauty of white porcelain with red and gold accents. With large, watchful eyes and bared teeth, this piece is the perfect guardian to add to your ceramics collection.
Cordell says of her work, "I reinterpret the figurine, enabling animals to break the chains of cuteness and noble savagery. An appreciation of the ridiculous, a love of beauty and skilled craftsmanship, and the belief that domestic objects are social propaganda all contribute to my work."
