VICENTE ORTIZ CORTEZ is a multidisciplinary Mexican artist based in Kennett Square, PA. He works with rice and straws in reference to arroz con popote, a Mexican phrase synonymous with male homosexuality. He takes ownership of the phrase to address contemporary issues through a queer-cultural lens. He has exhibited at the Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, NE, where he also served as a 2022 student show juror, The Beach Museum (solo) in Alagoas, Brazil, and at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, PA, among others. A 2021-2022 Silver Art Projects Artist-in-Residence at the World Trade Center, he's also a grant recipient from the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures. Collections include the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the William Way LGBT Community Center. Ortiz Cortez received his BFA from The Pennsylvania State University, and also attended Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, Italy.
