LAURA FITZGERALD works in drawing, painting, installation, video, and text. She is a graduate of the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland and Royal College of Art, London, UK. She is a recipient of the Visual Arts Bursary Award (Arts Council of Ireland) for 2022-23. She previously attended the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York, USA, and has recently completed on a three- month residency (AIR Spring 2023) at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Her work looks at aspects of uncertainty, through exploring narratives within the contemporary art world, rurality and land use. The work itself is a bit of a contradiction either taking a stand or making a good run for it. Her practice is under pinned via drawing and looks at spaces between hard and soft boundaries, checking inside to see what's going on and what it all might mean. Of course, this is an absurdist approach, but it is also (hopefully), an optimistic one. Her work has formed in galleries and on mountains and uses storytelling as a device for remembering and releasing. Her work involves planning and looking, (both left and right over her shoulder and back the road). The sometimes involves digging, throwing things up into the light again. Laura's next artwork is a walking path, the walk itself is the piece of art.
