1Glass Buoy & Net by Alan Blackman (1918-1992) oil, 12.78 x 16 inches, 13.5 x 17.75 inches framed, 1949. Alan Blackman was an artist and illustrator based in New York City. A child immigrant in the 1920s, he served with the U.S. in World War II. After the war, he had a long career as an off-staff illustrator at Reader's Digest. On the side he was a dedicated artist, working in oils, pastels, watercolors, and charcoal. Gathering inspiration from travels to Maine, New Mexico and the shorelines all along the east coast, he is known for his landscapes, coastal still life images, and portraiture.
