Sultan Zambach Martagon Constantinopolitanum Flore Albo by Basilius Besler (1561-1629) hand-colored copper engraving, 17 x 21.25 inches, 25 x 29 inches framed. Basilius Besler was a respected Nuremberg apothecary and botanist, best known for his famous large flower book, Hortus Eystettensis which was published three times between 1613 and 1713 and known as the largest flowerbook ever published in that period. He was curator of the garden of Johann Konrad von Gemmingen, Prince Bishop of Eichstatt in Bavaria, and many of his works illustrated the magnificent flowers from the Prince Bishop's gardens in Eichstatt.
