Janine Monroe
Sculpted painting - wood dust putty with acrylic medium & pigments
24" x 20"
Born in Kingston, Jamaica from parents who were classical musicians, Janine emigrated to the United States at the age of 10. Her unique perspective as a story-teller colors her work which captures modern day images for
future generations and explores socio-political and environmental issues. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Georgia Southern University.
As an artist and inventor, her current body of work features a new and innovative use of recycled wood combined with an acrylic polymer and pigments to create dimension (Process Patent-Pending). These pieces
are called Sculpted Paintings. Her work engages the audience as well as incorporates recycling. The pieces elicit spontaneous reactions that are grounded in the building blocks of time and space. She continues to explore questions concerning resources, "masks", and the value/necessity of both. Together, the medium and subject
matter form and inform a dialogue about the importance of preserving all organic resources.
Her older work is in the collections of many notables, including Luci Baines Johnson, the daughter of the 36th
U.S. President, Lyndon Baines Johnson.
