"Painting is an act of persuading visions and feelings into a visual harmony"
In this given moment, my goals as an artist are aligned towards exploring the idea
that painting is an act of persuading visions and feelings into a visual harmony. I
aim to understand what it means to communicate in a visual language. For example;
When I observe a sprawling gourd vine day after day under different lighting and
weather conditions, what I aim to do is capture its function and freeze it into paint.
From there, a subjected reality becomes inherently reimagined and otherworldly.
Chase places us in the mind of the solo figure in this dream-like scene. It is up to you,
the viewer, to contemplate what it is you see.
Chase's painting technique includes pentimento, which are marks left by an earlier
painting. This technique affords Chase the ability to develop compositions when a
painting gets stuck.
Chase captures the co-existence of a horse and its rider. What is left to wonder who
are they, where are they going and where do they come from.
