Tasanee Durrett

Acrylic on Canvas

36" x 36' x 2"

Tasanee Durrett, B. 1994 Chicago

Tasanee is a multidisciplinary artist based in Orlando Florida. She obtained a degree in Architecture at the University of Arizona in 2017. During her studies in architecture, she translated her own art journey into visual storytelling about Black and Brown communities that make up the vibrancy of spaces that we live in. While her journey started in architecture, it was painting that helped her find solace and healing after escaping an abusive relationship. Painting became Tasanee's outlet for releasing emotions and regaining strength. Today, her art narrates tales of happiness, positivity, and abundance, aiming to assist others in their healing journeys.

Tasanee's work can be described as a mix between abstraction, pointillism, and continuous contour line art. She takes an intricate yet fantastical approach to her work by focusing on the details. Her works are mainly figurative with a focus on portraiture. The inspiration behind Tasanee's work stems from her personal experience for liberation and connection to her inner self and ancestral roots. Emotional and spiritual healing is a common theme throughout her work as she explores how Black and Brown people occupy space in a time that is yearning for liberation and healing. Tasanee captures these moments with a unique and experimental use of colors and texture, which creates a sense of calmness out of a very deep and complex topic. She exaggerates the figures as a symbol of confronting oneself between the physical and spiritual realm. You'll also notice slight abstracted displacement in a beautiful way stemming from Tasanee's focus of celebrating the abundance of the Black and Brown community.
