The Monastery of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic, Benedictine Monastery of the Subiaco Cassinese Congregation. Continuing a centuries-old tradition, the monks live according to the Rule of St. Benedict, seeking God through a life of prayer, silence, work, and hospitality. They do this in a distinctive way by offering the Church the service of contemplative life in the city. The Monastery came to the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1991 at the invitation of the Cardinal Archbishop.

Visit the monastery for a self-directed retreat for two persons to share more fully in the monastic life of prayer and silence. Retreatants stay in accommodations reserved for that purpose and join the monks daily in church for the liturgy. In addition to two cooked meals in the refectory per day for guests, there are also simple breakfast items available in the guesthouse. The rest of one's time is available for quiet reading and prayer in the guesthouse or walks in the surrounding environs.

More information is available at their website, www.chicagomonk.org.
