Artist Statement:
I am an American painter from Southington, Connecticut where I currently reside and maintain my home studio. My work is influenced by early memories of playing in tree houses, running through the woods, and splashing around the lakes, ponds, and streams of the Northeast. I have always been curious to explore what is lurking just beneath the water's surface, or what's living under the log. This painting, "House on the Lake", was inspired by those abstract memories.
The process for this work began as spontaneous playing and splashing thin washes of oil paint on a primed board. I think of it as a painterly alchemy of sorts as I look for the infinite possibilities of patterns or imagery that may emerge from the paint. The subtle implied images that are generated are similar to the imagined objects that one may see in a clouded sky or reflections in the water. These chance images are then refined and resolved until the composition balances as a whole and seems of offer an implied storyline.
The painting process is an escape vehicle for me and the resulting work is open for the various interpretations. People will always see what that want to see based on their life experiences and perspectives. I hope the viewers may utilize the artwork to enjoy their own imaginative journey. Thank you for your interest. Enjoy.
