This chair is a Morris chair that has its beginnings in the English Arts and Crafts Movement that started in the 1860s and last through the early 1900's.. The movement, a push back against the Industrial Revolution and was mainly characterized by a return of skilled craftsman and handiwork. The chair was designed with function in mind. Flat, wide arms and adjustable back make it a comfortable recliner. Another important identifying characteristic is the hand carving around the base of the chair. This chair has been fully refinished and upholstered.
