Artist Statement:

This is part of a series that uses second hand, damaged books and flowers cut from magazines. I prefer objects that are used, that had a previous life and can be transitioned into an art object. The history of the book and the violent transformation of it an important to my process. Once gutted and dug into like a grave, the book is then filled with an eternal garden. Flowers that have long since died have a second life, forever captured at their healthy vibrant peak.

Additional Information:

This is a handmade tunnel book sculpture. The book itself was received second hand and damaged by a previous owner. The paper cover is a rich black with some signs of age, especially by the corners. Colorful flowers cut from magazines and books are glued into the center hole and spiral all the way to the back jacket. The book itself is gently glued shut.

This one of a kind piece cannot be replicated, is delicate and is light sensitive. Shadow box framing is recommended with UV protective glass so that the paper flowers and leaves do not fade. It should not be displayed in direct sunlight and should be kept away from moisture, since that could cause the collage flowers and foliage to curl.
