Additional Information: I spent my college years in Oklahoma, and had the chance to attend the Comanche Nation Fair in Lawton, Oklahoma around 2017. (Note: I am not an Indigenous American.) There were many performers competing in a wide range of Indigenous dance competitions, including the women's Fancy Shawl Dance depicted here. This painting captures a brief moment of rest amid an otherwise vigorous and highly athletic performance, a pause wherein the long fringe of the dancer's shawl continues to dazzle with its rippling, polychromatic motion.
About the Artist:
Tuong-Phi (Sophie) Le is a Houston-based mixed-media artist and crafter of historically inspired clothes and costumes. She draws on her Vietnamese-American heritage, love of Texas landscapes, and interest in history to create artwork exploring themes of place, inheritance, and belonging. She loves it best when, through meticulous consultation of archaeological and historical sources, she is able to reconstruct sights and sensations from history, bringing us closer to the ordinary people of the distant past.
Shipping: Price includes shipping to buyers in the U.S. If buyer is outside the U.S., additional shipping charges may apply and will be calculated and payable after the sale and prior to shipment.
