About the Artist:

My art draws from my childhood memories of growing up in Florida in a Cuban-American household back when FL was less- populated, and more, wild. I often find myself exploring themes of beauty, solitude, and nostalgia in my landscape paintings. This is expressed thru expansive skies, with large and small sweeping brush strokes over land or water set against a lush tropical background. I use modeling paste, palate knives, and brushes as part of my process to create highly texturized foliage and clouds. I'm inspired by both real and imagined places in nature and I strive to find the stillness and quiet in places that were once well-kept secrets. My artwork is a homage, a way for me to memorialize the places that were once wild before the developers
showed up.

I enjoy dancing the line in between, post-modern impressionism, and expressive abstraction. My artist influences are Van Gogh, Monet, and the historical self-taught Florida railroad painters known as The Florida Highway Men (1950s-1970s) and Florida Everglades photographer Clyde Butcher.
