About the Artist:

By focusing on the joyful moments of working-class life, my artwork provides a counterpoint to the typical narrative of this often misunderstood community. Through my paintings I aim to celebrate the vibrancy of these experiences, highlighting their importance and significance in contemporary society.

My work centers on capturing the jubilant moments of crowds in highly detailed and technical paintings. To create my paintings, I source images from crowds that I have personally experienced or have a deep connection to, convert them to drawings, and use those drawings as the foundation of the painting. The painting process takes many hours and is a way for me to commemorate the labor of working people. The resulting paintings are large and densely packed, mirroring the experience of actually being in the crowd.

My paintings showcase the energy of crowds in a way that is both familiar and new. I strive to impact the viewer by giving them a subject that is easy to connect to and by placing them as the reason the group congregates. In participating with the work, the viewer shifts between subject and spectator examining their own relationship with labor and leisure.

Additional Information:

Here I paint the top rows of seating at a sporting event. Growing up we would always sit in the nose bleed section of the stadium. Later in life as I was able to afford more and more expensive seats everything about the game changed.
